MONTESSORI EDUCATION

The Montessori Method of Education was developed by Dr. Maria Montessori (1870-1952), who, as a teacher herself, believed that “A child's work is to create the person she will become.”, and to give them a certain degree of freedom to allow them to grow and learn at their own pace. Therefore, The Montessori Method of Education provides a "Prepared Environment" that gives children a structured environment while still retaining an atmosphere of independence. Dr. Maria Montessori's Method of Education is currently a widely accepted method of learning, and is implemented in many preschool to elementary programs in both public and private schools.

The Montessori Method of Teaching consists of six essential areas of study:

  • Practical Life
  • Sensorial-Motor
  • Language
  • Math
  • Geography
  • Science

Every essential element of Montessori's Method is presented in a variety of different materials that encourage "active learning", or learning with actual experiences. Children are free to decide which materials they wish to use, therefore allowing them to learn at their own pace. A regular Montessori classroom is supervised by professionally trained teachers to assist a childs independent learning process and to assess their skills.
